Description

Join Fairfield Heritage, Lancaster City Parks, Destination Downtown Lancaster, and Visit Fairfield County in Historic Downtown Lancaster following the 4th of July Parade for a special America 250 celebration at the Bandstand in Zane Square!

Built in 1976 through a remarkable community effort to celebrate America’s Bicentennial, the Bandstand has served as a gathering place for generations. During this special event, the 1976 time capsule will be opened and a new 2026 time capsule will be buried for future generations to discover during America’s 300th birthday celebration.

The event will also include a formal proclamation, special presentations, and displays featuring original blueprints, photos, and Bandstand history from 1976. Guests will hear from Larry Smith — one of the original builders of the Bandstand — as he shares stories about how the project came together through the hard work and support of the Lancaster community. Following the program, guests will also have the opportunity to meet Larry and ask questions.
