June 21: Blown Glass Tumbler Class at the Ohio Glass Museum (10 a.m.)

Glassblowing studio at the Ohio Glass Museum

Description

There will be free admission to the Ohio Glass Museum during Bottoms Up weekend, June 21-23. The museum’s current exhibit, Anchored in Glass, is honoring the Anchor Hocking glass company which is still in production today in Lancaster. For the event weekend, the glass museum has added an additional display of midcentury modern Anchor Hocking Glass!

The gift shop has all Ohio-made glass, the majority being designed and created by resident glass artists in the in-house glass studios. The museum will also be hosting lectures throughout the weekend.

Friday June 21:

  • Blown Glass Tumbler Class: $70. 4 spots in each class. Class times:  10-1 p.m., or 6-9 p.m.
  • Blow a drinking tumbler for dunking cookies into milk or something with a little more kick!
  • Pick your two favorite colors from the wall of 60+ glass colors! With the help of your instructor, you’ll add those colors onto the surface of the clear molten glass. You will see your drinking glass take shape as you add your breath with a blow hose to inflate into a totally unique art glass cup! Final piece will be approximately 4-6″ tall.
  • No experience necessary; ages 12 and up with adult supervision.
  • Your glass art will be annealed (cooled down slowly) and ready to be picked up the next day the museum is open. Shipping can be arranged for an additional cost at the time of your class.
  • All class-made glass must be picked up within 3 months of class time. If items are left beyond 3 months, they become property of the Ohio Glass Museum.
