Dive into the artisan craft of cold-process soapmaking with a refreshing summer twist at Keller Market House! In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn how to create beautiful, skin-nourishing soaps using 100% natural colorants and pure essential oils. You will capture the essence of the season—from bright citrus sunshine to cool ocean breezes—without a single drop of synthetic dye or artificial fragrance. You will learn the science behind saponification, the art of blending essential oils for long-lasting summer scents, and how to harness roots, clays, and botanicals for gorgeous, earthy colors.
What You Will Learn (The Curriculum):
Cold-Process Basics: Understanding saponification, safe handling of sodium hydroxide (lye), and recognizing “trace”.
Coloring with Nature: How to prep and use natural colorants. They will cover oil infusions (like annatto seed) versus adding powders directly to the batter (like clays).
Scenting for Summer: The basics of blending essential oils using top, middle, and base notes to create a fragrance that anchors well in cold-process soap.
Texturing & Toppings: How to create textured tops and safely decorate with dried botanicals like calendula or sea salt.
Summer Soap Class options:
Citrus Sunshine with Annatto Seed Oil Infusion: A vibrant, sunny yellow to deep orange soap, with Sweet Orange, Lemongrass, and a touch of Cedarwood (to anchor the citrus) essential oils. Dried calendula petals are sprinkled on top for a “sunflower” look. Scent profile: Bright, uplifting, and sweet.
Ocean Breeze with Indigo Powder and Green Clay: A calming, muted denim blue or a soft seafoam green soap, with Eucalyptus, Spearmint, and Lavender essential oils. A sprinkle of fine pink Himalayan sea salt finishes the top. Scent profile: Cooling, fresh, and spa-like.
Create your own: Looking for something specific? No problem! You will work with the instructor to create your own scent.
