Historian and Pickerington High alumnus Earl Nicodemus will discuss the incredible hardships faced by the 135th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War at this program in the Pickerington-Violet Township Historical Society Museum. After training at Camp Chase, located in what is now Columbus’ Hilltop, the troops, comprised of National Guard units from Licking and Hardin counties, were deployed to West Virginia to guard a railroad. A surprise Confederate attack led to the infantry’s capture. Many of the men would lose their lives, either during the insidious death march to the infamous Andersonville prison camp or while imprisoned there. Come enjoy this free presentation!
