Fairfield County Town Tours-Lithopolis

How long has it been since you visited Lithopolis? You might be surprised by how much it has changed! Find out for yourself during this fun trip to the northwestern part of the county.

The first stop is that one of a kind historic spot, Rock Mill. You’ll have plenty of time to take photos of this amazing place that is one of the nation’s last remaining grist mill and covered bridge combinations. The Fun Bus will then escort you downtown to take advantage of the unique shops, including Law & Benson’s Olde Country Store, Yesteryear Antiques, and Wildflowers & Wonders. Then take a well-earned break at any of the great spots on Columbus Street – delicious Mexican food at El Pedregal or coffee and treats at Das KaffeeHaus.

Next up is an amazing behind the scenes tour of Wagnalls Memorial, one of the most impressive historic buildings in the region. (Are you sure this site wasn’t the inspiration for Hogwarts Castle?!?) Finally, wrap up the day at one of the county’s most popular – and most gorgeous – locations, Rock Mill Brewery.

Fairfield County Town Tours-Baltimore

When was the last time you visited Baltimore? You might be surprised by some of the great things this community has to offer! Find out during this fun trip to the northern part of the county.

The first stop is Fairfield County’s last remaining opera house, The Victoria Opera House. You’ll take a behind-the-scenes tour of this beautiful, historic spot and discover what made the opera house the heart of the community.

Then have a seat in the historic downtown bank building that is now the home of the Baltimore Pint House. Choose one of the great lunch selections on the eclectic menu featuring their famous burgers and wraps, as well as a variety of sandwiches, sides, and tasty treats. And, of course, fresh craft beer is always on tap.

Next up is an amazing behind the scenes tour of Baltimore Community Museum, one of the most interesting spots in the town. Find out more about the history of the region and explore the development of various modes of transportation through a variety of interesting exhibits.

Then head over to Second Chance Up-Cycling & Artisan Market where you’ll find a unique selection of hand-crafted home goods, vintage, antique, and repurposed high-quality furniture.

Finally, wrap up the day at one of the Fairfield County Park’s most popular locations, Smeck Park.

The ABC’s of History: Arboretum, Bridges and Canals

Get ready to explore some of the most intriguing forms of history in Fairfield County during this unique tour. Grab your seat on the Fun Bus for an afternoon of living history, scenic landscapes, natural features, and more!

The first stop on our tour is the famous downtown landmark, The Georgian Museum. Here you will be greeted by Samuel Mccracken, the man responsible for bringing the Ohio & Erie Canal to Lancaster. He will share his experiences, tell some stories about the canal, and show you some of the unique features of his beautiful mansion.

Next we’ll delve into some of the most impressive aspects of the Canal itself. Jump on the Fun Bus and travel to Lockville Canal Park, where an 1840s lock tender welcomes us to Lock #13 South. This is a great way to laugh and learn your way through canal history. In addition to the longest series of intact canal locks in the state, this park features the Hartman #2 Covered Bridge. Explore the bridge and experience a different aspect of Fairfield County’s transportation history.

The Fun Bus will then escort us to Olde Pickerington Village. At Sycamore Creek Park , we’ll stroll across yet another historic original covered bridge, The Zeller-Smith Bridge, to learn more about its history and construction. At the other side of the bridge is one of the most beautiful spots in the county – The Pickerington Arboretum. Take advantage of the very walkable half-mile trail to examine more than 100 species of trees, some of which were planted decades ago!

Fairfield County Town Tours-Hometown Hiking

Calling all adventure seekers! How would you like to explore some of Fairfield County’s best-kept secrets? Grab your hiking boots and get ready to hit the trails at a couple of the region’s most remote and gorgeous nature preserves.

You will start the day with a morning departure on the Fun Bus. The first stop is Shallenberger Nature Preserve at 9am. Hike Allen Knob, a promontory of highly-resistant sandstone that survived the onslaught of the glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. You will explore unique geological features and plant and animal life throughout the preserve.

After the hike, take a break with a brown bag lunch or snack on your own. Please bring your own food and drink for this trip.

From here, you’ll jump back on the Fun Bus and head out for an afternoon hike at Rhododendron Cove State Nature Preserve. This site is considered the home of the largest native population of giant rhododendron in Ohio, and their peak blooming is typically during late June.

The Fun Bus will then take you to a well-deserved ice cream stop at local favorite Nancy’s Scoops. Savor the extensive selection of Pierre’s hand-dipped ice cream, as well as a wide variety of sweets and treats. The Fun Bus will be waiting to safely transport you home at 3:30pm.

Fairfield County Town Tours-Pickerington

Lots of people don’t realize that Pickerington is more than a suburb of Columbus. It’s an amazing location that is part of Fairfield County. There’s so much to see and do in Pickerington. No wonder it’s such a bustling place! Here’s your chance to slow things down a little and take a guided behind-the-scenes tour of some of the coolest spots in town!

The first stop is an amazing place that most folks have never had the chance to explore: The Wigwam. This 63-acre historic retreat was originally built by the Wolfe family of Columbus and was purchased by Violet Township in 2018. The original lodge dates back to 1928, and visitors have enjoyed the serene splendor of this unique property ever since. You’ll be amazed by the beautifully landscaped property with a pond and water features, patios, banquet hall, and private theater. The Wigwam’s Event Coordinator will help you explore the luxurious amenities and share some amazing stories during your tour!

Next, the Fun Bus will escort you to the Sherman Center for a delicious lunch of your choice. With almost too many great restaurants, you may have a tough time choosing! Try the variety of sliders and homemade mac & cheese at Hangry City Grille & Spirits; sample some authentic, flavorful dishes from Zapata’s Mexican Kitchen; award-winning mediterranean cuisine awaits you at Greek Star Bar & Grill; and a variety of Asian cuisine is featured at Thai Paradise. Top it all off with a tasty dessert from Judge’s Choice Rollup Ice Cream!

From here, get ready to browse through one of the most unique shops in the region. Fun Bus will escort you to The Humble Crate Artisan Marketplace in the Olde Pickerington Village. This artisan marketplace features an amazing selection of locally made items including leather, electrical, woodworks, textiles, glass, pottery, and cottage foods. Find the perfect gift – or a special treat for yourself!

Then let the Fun Bus transport you to the Olde Village’s perfect afternoon pick-me-up spot, Porter’s Coffee House & Bakery! Grab one of their delicious coffee or tea drinks and pair it with an out-of-this-world homemade pastry. Yummy!

Finally, wrap up your outing with a visit to one of the most fun places in Pickerington, Combustion Brewery & Taproom! Enjoy the feeling of community in their historic taproom or kick back on the beautiful open-air patio while sampling an amazing selection of fresh craft beer.

Fairfield County Town Tours-Bridges & Beverages

Are you ready to step back in time? We’ve got the perfect trip for you! Hop on board the Fun Bus for a unique tour that explores some of the amazing historic bridges around Lancaster!

This tour begins at one of the most gorgeous sites in the area, Alley Park . You’ll love taking in the scenic beauty of this location on your way to the George S. Hutchins Bridge, spanning beautiful Lake Loretta. There, we’ll talk about the history and engineering behind covered bridges.

The Fun Bus will then take us through historic downtown Lancaster and along the bike path to pass the McCleery Bridge. Our next stop is Ohio University Lancaster , where we will explore two more fascinating bridges. The John Bright #2 Bridge is a wonderfully preserved covered bridge, and the John Bright Iron Bridge is considered one of the most rare bridges in the state. Don’t worry – there will be plenty of time for you to photograph and explore these incredible structures!

The final stop on our tour is one of the county’s most picturesque spots to relax and enjoy some refreshments. Take a stroll through the gorgeous vineyards of Rockside Winery while enjoying some delicious wine, one of their famous wine slushies, or a drink from their full-service bar. Snacks and small plates are also available. Savor the beauty of the region before Fun Bus escorts you safely back to your vehicle.
