Description
This is the first of three annual winter hikes in the Fairfield County park district. If you haven’t yet, make the winter hike series your annual winter tradition with friends and family, including the four-legged ones. Walk the Paw Paw and Walnut Creek trails at Smeck Park, plus the new trail extension, then warm up with roasted potatoes and hot refreshments. Trail conditions will vary based on weather; be prepared with appropriate footwear to hike in muddy, snowy, or icy and slippery conditions. Potable water is not available at this location, so bring your own drinking water. The hike is about three miles long and offers a variety of terrain; most hikers will finish in less than an hour. Those who wish to enjoy hot drinks and refreshments should start the trail between 10:00 a.m. and noon. Refreshments will be served from 10:30 until 12:30 p.m. Begin the hike just beyond the log-framed house and barn at the open picnic shelter.
