Carroll Heritage Day Open House

Description

Join the Carroll Area Historical Society for an afternoon of celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Carroll Area Historical Society by honoring our local history. There will be old photos, displays, music, and short programs on “Art & Symbolism in Carroll Area Cemeteries” (Carroll and Betzer Cemeteries), “Greenfield Township Fire Dept. History”, “Ancestors in the Civil War”, and “Carroll After Dark” beginning at 1:00 p.m. Speakers will be Beth Santore, Chief Brad Smith, Andy Rogers, and Tammy Drobina, respectively. At 3:00 p.m., see 1800’s canal locktender George Benadum talk about his life in a first-person, costumed performance by Jack Campbell of the Fairfield County Parks and learn about what it was like in the canal era.

A food truck will be in the parking lot serving ox roast sandwiches in honor of Carroll’s long tradition of the Ox Roast Festival from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Da Que LLC food truck will also have other sandwiches and sides for purchase. Carryout all day or buy a meal and bring it inside the Civic Center from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the open house where tables and chairs will be available and the speakers and photos can be enjoyed while you eat. They will have cake in honor of CAHS’ 20th anniversary. Founded in 2005, their nonprofit organization works to share history with the members and the public at meetings and special events.

Additionally, they will be recording memories of Carroll from anyone who would like to participate. Come and share something you recall from the “days of old” which can be an event, school memory, family tradition, work or farm memory – funny, sad, everyday or special. Their mission is to keep history alive and you can be a part of that by sharing your remembrance. Programs and displays are open to the public from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, please visit their Facebook page.
