Fairfield County Historical Marker Trail

Description

A sign for the Fairfield County Historical Marker Trail.

If you’ve traveled around the state you’ve probably seen one of the historical markers. The Ohio Historical Markers identify, commemorate, and honor the important people, places, and events that have contributed to the state’s rich history. There are plenty of Ohio Historical Markers here in Fairfield County, telling our region’s history as written by our communities. This vital educational tool informs residents and visitors about significant aspects of our past.

The Ohio Historical Marker program began in the 1950s; according to the Ohio History Connection, the markers “tell the unique stories that helped shape individual communities, as well as Ohio and the nation.” Use this trail to explore Fairfield County and learn about its special history– from covered bridges, to canals, and oil booms, you’ll be sure to learn something new!
