Description
Ohio has a rich and varied natural history. Many of the events that shaped Ohio’s landscape and provided the foundation for the development of a wide array of natural ecosystems began millions of years ago with the glaciers. The unique geological features and plant and animal life of this nature preserve form a living textbook of Ohio’s near and distant past. Come to explore the ways that glaciers shaped the landscape and altered how plants and animals could live in this region.
Special features include woods, wildflowers, mountain laurel, ferns, Black Hand sandstone geological features, bird watching, and a beautiful vista at the top of Allen Knob. Shallenberger Nature Preserve offers facilities such as a parking lot and trail system.
