About the Artist:
Douglas Jon Crawford is a contemporary collage artist living on a small farm outside Bremen, Ohio. He studied Art at the University of Dayton and earned a BFA at The Ohio State University.
Initially trained as a painter, Crawford transitioned to collage over time, drawing on his painting background to preserve a painterly texture and expressive sensibility in his work. He discovered office printer labels to be a versatile and efficient medium: color images manipulated and printed via a laser copier are sliced and layered in compositions that resemble painted surfaces.
His compositions often adopt a loose grid structure. Within these constraints, Crawford explores color, texture, and form—layering manipulated fragments of appropriated imagery to evoke mystery and encourage close viewing. Each piece balances bold and subtle elements, inviting viewers to engage in visual exploration and interpretation.
