Description

Come try samples of Seli Foods’ delicious shito sauce – including their new vegetarian chili shito oil! They’ll be set up inside the Keller Market House during opening day of the Lancaster Farmers Market!
The Asamoah family lives in Columbus and makes their special shito at the shared commercial kitchen at ACEnet in Athens.
What is shito? This dark-colored Ghanaian hot pepper sauce has a “rich delicious taste which just makes everything taste better!” In Ghanaian cuisine, it is used as a condiment like chili sauce or ketchup. It is traditionally eaten with rice, yam, kenkey, waakye, banku, potatoes, and many other dishes. It can also be used as a marinade or dip or to add some spice to a cheese board. You might also try it spread on bread, in a stir-fry or as barbecue sauce on meat, fish, and vegetables.
Seli Foods’ shito – incorporating dried fish and shrimp along with ginger, onions, garlic, cayenne pepper, tomatoes and spices – has been a cherished family recipe for many years. Eventually, by popular request, Selina Asamoah began to make her sauce for events and parties. This led to an even great demand, and she decided to share it with the world. Recently the Asamoahs have also created a delicious vegetarian version!
Stop by during the Meet the Maker pop up and try Mild, Medium or Very Spicy and let us know how you enjoy using it!
