Even better, you will be greeted by the friendly, fun shopkeeper, Janis Francis, who developed the idea of this terrific shop.

Janis served as the Pickerington Village Association Farmers Market Manager for four years. She feels that Humble Crate is simply an extension of that experience. At the Farmers Market, she worked with a multitude of vendors who made unique and high-quality handmade items. She soon realized that they needed a permanent year-round market for their goods. Janis found a great location in charming Olde Pickerington Village, and she opened for business on November 25, 2019.

While we’ve all come to realize how important it is to shop local, Janis states the case in a different way. “When you shop local with us, you’re supporting not only myself as the shop owner, you are supporting 65 local vendors. They could be your neighbors or your coworkers.” She explains that although some people do this to supplement their incomes, others use it as the main method of supporting themselves and their families. Shopping local at The Humble Crate Artisan Marketplace means that you are supporting dozens of Ohio families.

Janis happily greets and chats with every customer. If she doesn’t already know them, she’ll ask if they’ve shopped there before and help them find what they’re looking for. “More times than not, customers know each other and will catch up while shopping,” Janis explained. “When customers come into the shop, they feel a true sense of community.” Janis makes sure to always have upbeat music playing, and she often hears her customers humming or singing along.
