What to Do This New Year’s Eve: Glass Town Countdown 2023

Instead of watching the ball drop from your couch, Ohio’s Best Hometown is bringing the Times Square tradition to you with this annual celebration!

What to Do This New Year’s Eve: Glass Town Countdown

What is Glass Town Countdown?

Fun, free, and family-friendly, Glass Town Countdown is an event to remember!  Located at Zane Square, drink delicious hot chocolate or carry a drink within the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) during this fun street party held by Destination Downtown Lancaster. Enjoy food trucks, vendors, local businesses, music, and more before the globe is lit and lifted (not dropped) for the whole community to observe!  Did we mention that there will be fireworks?  Make sure to stick around until midnight as Lancaster starts the year off with a bang!

About the Globe

First created by Lancaster Parks and Recreation out of forged aluminum in 2019, the globe is four feet in diameter and holds more than 500 pounds of glass.  When illuminated, the globe has almost 200 feet of LED lighting mounted inside and can hold approximately 750 ornaments!

Why Glass Town Countdown?

Glass Town Countdown was created to commemorate and celebrate Lancaster’s rich glass heritage. Before the celebration, check out other note-worthy stops that help tell Lancaster’s glass history such as the Ohio Glass Museum, Gay Fad Studios, and the Gay Fad Studios mural

Ready to start the Glass Town Countdown experience?

Create your own glass ornament for the globe before the event!  Sign up now for a Glass Town Countdown glassblowing class and create your ornament at the Ohio Glass Museum, or buy one online or at the Ohio Glass Museum Gift Shop.
